New Summer Classes added, including an exciting "Make a Beer Stein" class to help celebrate Freeport's "Pretzel City Brew Fest" on September 14.

Low fire hand built coil pot. They take more time to build than would make them profitable to sell but they are excellent pots for students to make. This one was heavily pinched and altered after it was built.

We will have a table at the Stephenson County Farmer's Market every saturday morning from 8-12 until the end of Cctober. It is located on Exchange St. between Chicago and Van Buren Ave in Freeport IL

Clay Classes

  • Beginner Wheel Throwing

    This course is six sessions, 2 hours per session. You will experience the allure of wheel throwing, the silky feel of clay in your hands, the exhilaration of pulling up the walls and making your very own imagination come alive!We will begin with the basics of preparing and centering the clay on the wheel and instruction will be given for making simple forms such as bowls and mugs. This course is suitable for beginners or students who want a refresher course on the basics, adults, and children over 10. The student will learn safe operation and use of the studio and pottery wheels. Each student must bring the following items to each class; a basic pottery tool set, a 1 gallon sized or equivalent plastic bucket, apron, towel and notebook. View classes and sign up at
  • Handbuilding

    This course is six sessions, 2 hours per session. This is a fun class where we get to play with shapes, make functional vessels such as platters, plates, mugs, bowls and vases. Let your imagination be your guide!We will use a variety of low tech construction methods that make clay accessible to anyone, no expensive equipment needed, and with a few safety precautions, most people can hand build beautiful pieces on their kitchen table.Learn how to pinch, coil and slab build whatever your heart desires!This course is suitable for beginners or experienced students, adults, and children over 10, who would like to have an overview of many hand-building techniques to make small functional forms. The student will learn safe operation and use of studio equipment such as a slab roller and extruder, and the basics of pinched, coiled, and slab built processes as well as the use of many hand tools.   • Intermediate Wheel Throwing

    This course is six sessions, 2 hours per session. We will go beyond the basics and begin to explore larger and taller forms, lids and other enhancements. We will begin to decorate the pots from the very start, while they are still on the wheel. The class structure will alternate between demo sessions which can be up to an hour of the 2 hour session where a workshop style presentation takes place, and work sessions where no demos are presented but hands on help is offered with ongoing projects. The course content is influenced by the class members' interests and ideas.This course is suitable for students who can center and throw pots without assistance and who have a knowledge of attaching handles, the working properties of clay and basic glazing experience. This class is for adults, and children over 10 with instructor approval. Safe operation and use of the studio and pottery wheels will be reviewed. View classes and sign up at
  • Clay Play Sundays

    This class is an ideal way to get your hands dirty! The themed classes are 3 hours, where the project will be demonstrated and completed in one session. Your finished artwork will be clear glazed and ready for pickup at an arranged date after the class. This class is open to adults and children 10 and older. Please keep in mind it is a fast paced class and not specifically tailored to children, although the themes are fun for everyone. Children who lack focus may not be able to successfully complete a project on their own. Contact me ahead of time to discuss any needs or concerns you may have.   • Date Night Couple's Wheel Throwing

    This is a custom class booked for you and your significant other to try wheel throwing. Price is per couple. There may be other people using the studio at the same time, so no "Ghost" reenactments please :) You will have 2 hours and step by step instruction to feel what it is like to throw pots on the wheel. The class cost does not include any finished work, but if you would like to make something to keep, the costs and time to do so can be discussed.
